Beware of Self-Righteousness

Many people deny that they have broken any of God's commandments. They are blind to the truth, and what blinds them is self-righteousness.

So You Didn't Miss Any...

Jesus dealt with the issue of self-righteousness in the following passage. " As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him. Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?” But when Jesus heard this, He said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire compassion, and not sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”" (Matthew 9:9-13, NASB95)

Why Do You Go to the Emergency Department?

You go to the doctor when you are sick. Until you acknowledge that you are sick and in need of help, you won't go to the doctor. In this passage, the Pharisees are not really healthy; they are as sick as, if not sicker than, the tax collectors and "sinners." Their problem was that they were too self righteous to see it.

Don't Be Like Them!

We have all broken the law of God. No one can claim perfection before God. We all are guilty and need His mercy.

Take The Test Again

This time, with a humble heart, go back and take the test again. If you are still in doubt, read the Ten Commandments yourself in Exodus 20. Also, check out Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7.
